What .ai and .com officially mean
IANA records .com as a generic top-level domain managed by VeriSign. It records .ai as Anguilla’s country-code domain, managed by the Government of Anguilla. AI is the abbreviation for artificial intelligence. That widely used business meaning is separate from .ai’s official country-code status.
Both endings can be used for a website and email. Neither supplies an existing product, company or trade mark with the purchase.
Choose for the company or the product
Decide which identity the address belongs to. A parent company may cover several products; an individual AI assistant may have a narrower job. Write the name beside the offer you intend to sell now and the next product you expect to add.
Izzie.ai could give an AI assistant a personal identity. BluNeural.com could name a machine-learning tool or data platform. They illustrate different approaches; they are not a matched pair and do not come with working software.
If AI is incidental to the service, ask whether leading with it helps a customer understand the offer. If it is the product’s central feature, the .ai ending may add useful context. The company naming guide helps compare meaning and distinctiveness.
Test the full address aloud
Say the full address, including its ending, and ask someone to write it down before showing it to them. Record the spelling and ending they wrote. This gives you an observation about your actual shortlist, rather than an assumption about everyone’s habits.
Then look up existing businesses using the same base name. A different ending does not settle whether your planned use creates a conflict. Follow the company and trade mark checks for the countries where you intend to trade.
Compare purchase and renewal terms
The price of an already-owned domain is separate from its registration and renewal fees. An available .com can cost more to purchase than a particular .ai, or the other way round. Use the exact listing, rather than assuming the ending sets a resale value.
Ask the registrar for the current renewal price, minimum term, transfer rules and any applicable taxes. Compare the cost of keeping the name over the same period. Our .ai explanation links the registry and a dated price example; that example is not a current quote for every registrar.
How Google treats these endings
Google lists .ai among the country-code domains it treats as generic for geographic targeting. .com is also generic. That tells you about geographic interpretation, not which exact domain will rank higher.
Google’s ranking-systems guide describes domain words as one of many relevance factors and a system that limits excessive credit for exact-query domains. Buying a keyword name does not establish a ranking result. Choose an address that fits the business, then build useful content for its customers.
Buy one name or both
Buy a second ending only when you have a clear use for it and can keep both renewed. Check its actual availability and price first. Owning one exact registration does not give you control of another ending or exclusive rights to the word.
Browse the premium .ai collection and brandable names, then open a name’s detail page for its current price or offer option. The buying guide explains the next steps.
Common questions
Is .ai better than .com?
Compare the exact name with the business or product it will describe. .com can suit a worldwide company; .ai can make sense for a product where artificial intelligence does the work. Check spelling and ongoing costs as well as the naming fit.
Will .ai rank worse because it is a country code?
Google lists .ai among the country-code endings it treats as generic for geographic targeting. That does not promise equal rankings for different sites; rankings depend on the page and other signals.
Does buying both endings protect my brand?
It gives you control of those two exact registrations while they remain renewed. Existing businesses and trade marks still need separate checks.
